A Storm Is Brewing is an original abstract painting by Layla Moody that captures the charged stillness just before release—the moment when tension, beauty, and movement gather into something powerful.
Layered in moody shades of plum, charcoal, smoky gray, lavender, soft white, and muted blue, this piece is energized by dramatic metallic copper pathways that drip and break across the composition like shifting fault lines or storm fronts. The soft, cloudlike forms and luminous shimmer create a sense of motion and atmosphere, while the cascading vertical drips add depth, edge, and emotional intensity.
There is a beautiful contrast in this work between softness and unrest. Ethereal washes float through the piece with a dreamlike quality, while the copper accents ground it with warmth and bold structure. The result is a statement artwork that feels both sophisticated and expressive—perfect for collectors who love modern abstract art with mood, texture, and presence.
A Storm Is Brewing works beautifully in modern, contemporary, luxe, and transitional interiors. Its palette pairs especially well with neutral spaces, black accents, warm metals, natural woods, and layered textiles.
One-of-a-kind original artwork by Layla Moody.
Abstract. Alcohol ink, shimmer, crystal accents on wood board. Resin Finish. 18HX24WX3/4D
